African Union Commission Welcomes Swiss Mediation in Cameroon

The Chairman of the African Union Commission, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, on Saturday, July 27, welcomed the announced mediation between the Southern Cameroons (Ambazonia) and la Republique du Cameroun. According to international public opinion leaders and observers, this stand by the African Union reflects decisions taken at the Foumban Conference in 1961 that put Southern Cameroons (West Cameroon) and La Republique du Cameroun (East Cameroon) under the banner of a Federated state (Federal Republic of Cameroon). It is in Foumban that the motto of the Federal Republic of Cameroon was chosen as "Peace, Work, Fatherland"" and the two stars put on the national flag to represent the two states ( East Cameroon and West Cameroon). No explanation has been given why one of the stars was removed from the national flag. It is the flag adopted in Foumban that is recognised by the United Nations Organisation, UNO. Many calls have been made for the government of la "Republique" to return to the federal constitution that gave equal opportunities for English and French speaking communities of Cameroon. H.E. Kofi Annan, Secretary General of the United Nations Organisation ( May His Soul Rest in Perfect Peace), visited Cameroon and Nigeria before his retirement to caution on the Cameroon and Nigeria governements to respect the boundaries established during the re-independence era. France gave independence to East Cameroon that became "La Republique du Cameroun, but the Bristih government did not gave independence to Southern Cameroon (West Cameroon, now known as Ambazonia Republic seeking for their liberation. The Southern Cameroons became West Cameroon in the constituted Federal Republic of Cameroon in Foumban and was assimilated by la Republique du Cameroun because the federal constitution adopted in plenary session was not translated into English Language for Dr. John Nug Fonche to endorse. President Ahmadou Ahidjo promised to convene another session in Yaounde for the adoption of the English version of the Federal constituiton and it never held until he passed intoi transition.The last article in the federal constitution adopted in Foumban said, no chanhes could be made without the two parties holding a session togther to make any changes. Another article stipulated that if the Preisent of the republic came from one state, the vice president had to be elected from the other. This explains why Dr. John Ngu Foncha became the first Vice Preisednt of the Federal Republic of Cameroon. Since he past into transition, there has never been a vice president in Cameroon. That is where the problem lies in the cureent conflict mediated by Swiss. Swiss invites all parties in the conflict in (North West and South West regions of Cameroon to engage in dialogue with the wish to reach a peaceful and political solution which puts the national interest of the country first, above all other considerations.With this, we can explain the importance of the the visit of the chairperson of the African union to Cameroon recently.We should not invent the tyre of the Federal Republic of Cameroon.
